Teaching Experience Reflective of Home
Teaching Experience Reflective of HomeWhen student teaching experiences are reflected upon, what emerges is a profile of the teacher. For example, a student-teacher relationship can include a myriad of experiences and activities; not all of which the teacher would have envisioned when the process began.Often the most common themes emerge as the teacher and the students (or the students) reflect on their interaction and the end result. The student writing about their student teaching experience often reports that they felt challenged and encouraged in some way. They reported that the interactions with the teacher were a challenge and that the interactions did not feel challenging to them. Rather, they felt connected to the teacher in some ways or another. How this works is that the student-teacher relationship is one that has been formed over time. The teacher/student bond is strong and stable. The student/teacher relationship has become comfortable and safe. Therefore, when the studen t's experience reflects on that bond, the main theme emerges: the student feels at home. In other words, the student feels comfortable and safe in the teacher/student relationship. Now, the question is how will this be expressed? The best way to do this is to reflect on the teacher-student relationship, and to reflect on the nature of the learning environment that was created in the classroom environment. The teacher and student's writing become a collaborative effort. Both the teacher and the student are able to express their thoughts and feelings in a manner that is personal to the situation. What happens is that both the teacher and the student take responsibility for the writing and speak from their hearts. When a student writing about their student teaching experience refers to their feeling of safety, the student writing reflects that in their writing. They express the comfort that they felt and the energy that they felt coming from the teacher. They also reflect that feeling of security that they felt that they could always go to the teacher and be heard. The student writing about their student teaching experience talks about the relationship that they felt with the teacher. The student writing about their student teaching experience reflects on the overall relationship that they had with the teacher. They reflect on the ways that the teacher influenced their life and feelings in some way or another. This teacher/student relationship is one that has been established over time. When a student writing about their student teaching experience reflects on that bond, the main theme emerges: the student feels at home.
